China women set for huge bonus with upset of USA

OTTAWA – China's Women's World Cup squad will receive a huge bonus of up to $250,000 per player if they beat the United States in Friday's quarterfinal.

The huge payout will come from their national federation, the Chinese Football Association, according to multiple reports in the Chinese media.

Yu Hongchen, vice president of the CFA, has already guaranteed that the team will receive a figure in the region of $160,000 for having beaten Cameroon in the round of 16 and booking its spot in the quarterfinal.

And several Chinese journalists covering the team indicated to USA TODAY Sports on Thursday that the sum would increase by "between 40 and 60 percent" for an upset win against the Americans in a rematch of the iconic 1999 World Cup final.
