There was a sense of deja vu about Chelsea’s second-half collapse in Barcelona. They had given themselves a lifeline when Sandy Baltimore’s goal pulled them back to 2-1 after Clàudia Pina had added to Ewa Pajor’s first-half opener.
But a third goal from Irene Paredes and a fourth from Pina leave their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread. Now, to put it bluntly, Chelsea need a miracle. A 2-1 defeat would not have been the end of the world. It would have given them something to work with ahead of the second leg of this semi-final tie.
