This time last year Chelsea pushed Barcelona all the way in two closely-contested semi-final legs. They were defeated, narrowly, but there was little to separate the two teams. It felt as though Chelsea were getting closer to finally finding a way to beat the European champions.
Twelve months on and two humiliating defeats later, they look further away than ever.
“I think that’s a fair reflection,” Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor said after being asked whether the gap between the two clubs has increased.
“If you analyse the result for sure. We knew we were going to have a tough challenge and play the best team in Europe.
