Now there are two drivers that know their fates. For the rest of the NASCAR Sprint Cup field of championship contenders, Phoenix International Raceway could be nerve-racking.
Jimmie Johnson snagged one of the four spots in the Nov. 20 championship race with his win last weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Carl Edwards, who was deep in the pack after a setback at Martinsville, charged back for the win in Sunday’s rain-shortened race at Texas to earn a berth in the final four as well.
The other two will lock in after next Sunday’s race at Phoenix, with the championship race a week later at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
