Charl Schwartzel bests Bill Haas on first playoff hole to win Valspar Championship

On a day dominated by college basketball, Charl Schwartzel rose out of the pack Sunday to beat Bill Haas in a playoff at the Valspar Championship.

The 31-year-old South African started the day five shots behind Haas, but fired a 4-under 67 — the low round of the day — to finish at 7 under and ultimately vanquish the 54-hole leader after parring the first playoff hole.
