CBS began Selection Sunday with a fitting tribute to Greg Gumbel

Many sports fans are still processing the December death of longtime broadcaster Greg Gumbel, and there was no question his absence would be felt on Selection Sunday. For years, this was a day where Gumbel welcomed fans back to the best tournament in sports as CBS unveiled the official bracket.

Gumbel captained viewers along all March long and into April. His is a voice not easily replaced — if it can be replaced at all.

This may be the first year without him anchoring CBS' coverage, but the network surely wasn't going to air the selection show without paying tribute to the TV titan.
