The Lombardi Trophy nearly became the Lombardeer Trophy on Friday night, after a car carrying the Super Bowl championship struck a deer in Maine.
According to an Associated Press report (via ESPN.com), a New England Patriots employee who was in charge of the trophy was unharmed after the accident. The trophy was in Maine for a scheduled appearance at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
Maine's State Police Facebook page made a post describing the incident:
The Lombardi Trophy also did not sustain any damage in the accident.
