ASCOT, England — Although a minor injury forced the reigning American Horse of the Year, California Chrome, to miss his chance to race in the Group I Prince of Wales’s Stakes on Wednesday at Royal Ascot, his trainer, Art Sherman, and co-owner Steve Coburn still arrived at the famed racecourse, with required top hats in tow.
“Things happen in thoroughbred racing, but it is still really a class act to be here,” Sherman, 78, said. “Just watching how they prepare their horses and the pageantry and the queen coming, it is a different feeling. I’d never been to Dubai, and that was a great experience, and now we are here in England.
