Caddie hospitalized after being struck in head by golf ball at British Open

Caddie William Ciplinski needed to be hospitalized Tuesday when he was struck in the head by a golf ball at Royal Troon during a practice session.

Ciplinski, an American caddying for Open debutante Marco Dawson, was treated and is in stable condition after suffering the blow from a stray tee shot from Vijay Singh at the seventh hole. He was taken away on a golf cart and admitted to the University Hospital Ayr for observation.

A spokesperson for NHS Ayrshire and Arran confirmed to Omnisport that Ciplinski was stable, though it's uncertain if he'll still able to perform his duties for Dawson this week.
