Butler court storm leads to gesture honoring late Andrew Smith

Butler will gladly pay the price for its fans' overexuberance last week. The money is going to an excellent cause.

The university was fined $5,000 by the Big East Conference for a court storm following the Bulldogs' win Wednesday over No. 1 Villanova. The cash will, in fact, go to Be The Match, which works to register potential marrow donors who could, in turn, help save cancer patients.

Butler's connection to Be The Match is highly personal. One of the charity's partners is Project 44, which was formed in honor of late Butler center Andrew Smith.
