Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall has lost sponsorships and fans after he simply decided to join Colin Kaepernick's protest and take a knee during the national anthem.
Marshall probably could have guessed there would be backlash for his actions. It comes with the territory. But the letter he posted on his Instagram account Friday shows another side of the ugliness. Something that goes beyond politics.
"The hatred by some against people of color is one of the reasons we are where we're at in the world today, and they wonder why we feel the way we do and take the stances that we take," Marshall wrote.
