At least 10 prospective jurors have refused to serve in the courtroom of Judge Aaron Persky in the wake of the lenient sentence he gave Brock Turner, the former Stanford swimmer convicted of raping an unconscious and intoxicated woman last year, the East Bay Times reports.
Instead of sending Turner to state prison for at least two years, Judge Persky sentenced him to six months in county jail and three years’ probation. In handing down the sentence, Persky followed the recommendation of a California probation officer and ruled that Turner's case was a special circumstance. The decision, though, has sparked national outrage.
