Brock Osweiler signs 1-year deal to serve as Broncos' backup QB

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- With backup quarterback Paxton Lynch expected to miss at least the first month of the regular season, the Denver Broncos turned to a familiar face Saturday, signing Brock Osweiler to a one-year deal.

Osweiler, who spent his first four years in the league with the Broncos, was released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this week. The Broncos are believed to have signed Osweiler for the veterans minimum of $775,000; he also is guaranteed $16 million from the Browns.

The Browns will pay the remainder of the $16 million, minus Osweiler's base salary with the Broncos.
