Brittney Griner and her wife, Glory Johnson, were each suspended for seven games by the W.N.B.A. on Friday over a domestic violence incident between the two in April.
The players will also be required to attend counseling sessions.
The W.N.B.A. season is only 34 games long, so the suspensions are for 21 percent of it, the equivalent of a 17-game suspension in the N.B.A. Griner plays for the Phoenix Mercury and Johnson for the Tulsa Shock. They will not miss any of their scheduled games against each other.
The players were arrested on April 22 after fighting at their house outside Phoenix.
