British Open Updates: Jordan Spieth Off to a Fast Start

Jordan Spieth continued his quest for a Grand Slam with a fast start at the British Open at St. Andrews on Thursday morning. After 14 holes, he was two shots off the lead at five-under par.

The 1999 winner, 46-year-old Paul Lawrie, and Dustin Johnson, who was playing with Spieth, were tied for the lead at seven under.

Spieth, 21, arrived in Scotland on Monday after a playoff victory at the John Deere Classic in Illinois. He has 6 wins in his past 19 starts.

Some players and commentators expressed concern that he had not given himself enough time to practice on the unusual course and in the sometimes unusual conditions.
