Muhammad Ali, the boxing legend known as "The Greatest," died Friday night at age 74 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
NBC News was the first to report Ali's death, though the Miami Marlins announced his death during Friday's game against the New York Mets after team president David Samson said he learned of the boxer's death.

Ali had been hospitalized in a Phoenix-area hospital with what a family spokesman described as a respiratory infection.
Considered by many to be the best boxer in history, Ali proclaimed himself as the “Greatest of all time” in 1964 and the title stuck — even after he was defeated five times in his career.
