LOS ANGELES – World indoor 800 meter champion Boris Berian arrived at the Hoka One One Middle Distance Classic on Friday night not to race but to cheer on his teammates.
Little did he know he'd walk away from the meet with a lawsuit in his hands, having been served by his former apparel sponsor Nike.
"I was right over there" Berian told Sporting News, pointing to the southwest corner of the Occidental College track. "All of a sudden a guy shows up and serves me."
Berian was America's breakout middle distance star of 2015, rising from relative obscurity to being ranked the top U.
