Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight will reportedly return to Indiana’s Assembly Hall on Saturday and attend a game for the first time since he was fired in 2000, according to both The Athletic and Sports Illustrated.
Knight’s 1979-1980 team is being honored at halftime during Saturday’s game against the Purdue Boilermakers. That team went 21-8, won the Big Ten championship, and hit No. 1 in the AP poll before being eliminated in the Sweet Sixteen. Former Purdue coach Gene Keady is also expected to attend the game.
The reason for Knight’s long absence from Indiana is due to how he departed.
