Exactly a month after completing a 3-9 season, Connecticut fired coach Bob Diaco on Monday.
While Diaco's 11-26 record in three seasons in his first head coaching job isn't ideal by any measure, the timing of the move is curious. UConn athletic director David Benedict acknowledged as much, but provided no detailed explanation, in a statement released by the school.
“I know this may come as a surprise to our fans and supporters given the timing of this decision,” Benedict said. “However, it became apparent to me that a change in program direction is necessary at this time.
