The player, Kane Van Gate, relayed a second-hand version he'd heard from his Uber driver about how Darling went out of his way to assist a man who'd approached him asking for money during the Blackhawks' road trip to Scottsdale, Ariz., last week. Instead of dismissing the request, Darling took it a step further and paid for the man to stay in a hotel for a month to help him get back on his feet.
