Baron Davis Q&A: On LeBron and Kobe, Drew League, and being 13 during L.A. riots

It’s been 43 years since Alvin Willis began a weekend recreational basketball league in South Central Los Angeles, at the Drew Middle School, where he was a coach. In the decades since, the Drew League has grown into one of the most famous offseason hoops leagues in the world, drawing local legends, fans from all over, NBA stars and, of course, eager kids from the neighborhood.

Three-and-a-half years ago, former NBA star and filmmaker Baron Davis began turning a documentary camera to the Drew League. In doing so, he not only captured the impact that basketball can have in a community like South Central, he also captured a piece of the recent history of Los Angeles in general.
