OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Kelly Barnhill gave up just three hits to help Florida roll past Texas A&M 8-0 in five innings Thursday, the opening day of the Women’s College World Series.
Barnhill (25-3), USA Softball’s National Player of the Year, struck out five in four innings. She threw 30 pitches in the first and escaped trouble, then threw 46 pitches in her final three innings for top-seeded Florida (56-8).
Florida got on the board in the first when Janell Wheaton’s single knocked in two. The Gators scored two more in the second on a single by Nicole DeWitt.
