Nearly two weeks after Patrick Roy abruptly resigned as head coach and vice president of hockey operations, the Colorado Avalanche have tabbed his replacement.
Jared Bednar, who just led the Lake Erie Monsters to a Calder Cup title in the American Hockey League, is the man to take over the Avs in these unique circumstances. It will be his first job of any kind at the NHL level, which makes him an interesting choice to lead a team in need of a fresh start.
Other candidates who were reportedly considered among the finalists for the job included former Florida Panthers head coach and current Chicago Blackhawks assistant Kevin Dineen and Washington Capitals assistant coach Lane Lambert.
