BRISBANE, Australia (AP) Australian cricketers have canceled a tour to South Africa in the first boycott of their ongoing pay dispute with the sport’s national governing body.
The Australian Cricketers’ Association announced Thursday that the Australia A tour will not go ahead. The 19-man second-string squad, led by Usman Khawaja and containing two other test players – had been due to leave Friday and return in early August.
The players’ union said tour couldn’t proceed with a new Memorandum of Understanding with Cricket Australia. The previous MoU expired on June 30, leaving about 230 players, including test and state players, technically unemployed.
