KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Auburn Tigers advanced to the Final Four for the first time in school history, defeating Southeastern Conference rival Kentucky, 77-71, in overtime on Sunday, earning a trip to Minneapolis to play Virginia in an N.C.A.A. national semifinal.
The fifth-seeded Tigers relied on 3-pointers and hard-nosed defense to extend their winning streak to 12, completing a sweep of college basketball royalty: Kansas, North Carolina and now Kentucky.
Three of the Final Four spots are now set. Auburn will face Virginia and Texas Tech will meet the winner of Sunday’s other game, between Duke and Michigan State.
