Oakland Athletics farmhand Andrew Lambo underwent surgery for testicular cancer on Friday.
The 27-year-old outfielder/first baseman was diagnosed while playing with Triple-A Nashville after experiencing discomfort. He went to the Vanderbilt University Urology Clinic, where the diagnosis was made and the surgery was performed.
For the time being, Lambo has been placed on Triple-A Nashville's seven-day disabled list.
“He’s a pretty gregarious guy and fits in well in the clubhouse,” manager Bob Melvin told the San Francisco Chronicle. “At some point in time, we figured we’d see him this year, but right now, what he’s got going on is a lot more important.
