The Astros have brought up another piece to the best young infield in baseball. Twenty-two-year-old Alex Bregman, the No. 2 pick of the 2015 MLB Draft and baseball’s No. 1-ranked prospect by ESPN’s Keith Law, is a shortstop by trade who’ll likely play third base in the short term.
Houston raised some eyebrows earlier this month when it threw $47 million at Cuban third baseman Yulieski Gourriel, while Bregman was tearing up Triple-A. With the best keystone connection in the game already playing at Minute Maid Park, Gourriel’s signing had some wondering whether Bregman would become a trade chip.
