Astros-Brewers game ends in controversy involving MLB's new slide rule

Astros manager A.J. Hinch says it's "a joke" how baseball's new slide rule was applied Friday night on a play that ended his team's 6-4 loss to the Brewers in Milwaukee.

The Astros had rallied for four runs in the ninth, and had Colby Rasmus on first with Jose Altuve at the plate with one out. Altuve hit a slow hopper to second baseman Scooter Gennett, who threw to shortstop Jonathan Villar at second to force Rasmus. Villar did not even attempt a throw to first, but umpires ruled Altuve out for the game-ending double play, saying that Rasmus did not attempt to maintain contact with the bag.
