Alvin Gentry was lounging on a folding chair, recounting the car dealership ad he’d just done in New Orleans, one of the first benefits of his new gig as coach of the Pelicans. It’s a common practice in NBA markets for a head coach to pitch local auto dealers in commercials, and having already been a head coach witht the Pistons and Suns, Gentry was familiar with the routine.
“I did one in Detroit, man, my kids just murdered me,” Gentry said, laughing. “They go, ‘Dad that’s the worst acting I ever saw in my life. Please don’t do those anymore.
