NASCAR could well find itself in another weather predicament this weekend. The culprit this time: Hurricane Matthew.
Warnings and emergency orders were in place along the East Coast from Florida to the Carolinas. And although Charlotte Motor Speedway, the site of Saturday night's scheduled Sprint Cup race, is well inland, rain is expected. A 70 percent chance of rain on Friday, according to forecasters.
Also facing a weather threat: Friday's Xfinity Series race at Charlotte. Both series are in their Chase championship competitions.
At the track in Concord, N.C., just outside Charlotte, preparations were well under way and were accompanied by optimism as Wednesday's midday forecast for the weekend cut the chance of rain to 20 percent on Saturday.
