Argentina’s World Cup Hangs in the Balance Against Poland

How to watch: 2 p.m. Eastern. Fox, Universo, Peacock (free).

How unfortunate it would be if the world were deprived of seeing a truly gifted scorer, a master of his craft, in the knockout stages. Also, it would be a shame if Lionel Messi of Argentina didn’t get there, too.

Barring a failure of colossal proportions, either Messi or Robert Lewandowski, Poland’s striker extraordinaire, will advance. But not necessarily both, even though their teams enter the final day of group stage play in a strong position.

For Poland, the edict is simple: beat or draw with Argentina, and it qualifies for its first elimination round since 1986, two years before Lewandowski was born.
