Washington (AFP) - A small group of animal protesters gathered outside the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice facility on Wednesday to express dismay at the NFL team's decision to sign quarterback Michael Vick.

The 35-year-old free agent served nearly two years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges for his role in a dogfighting ring.

Vick said after practice that he's used to such protests and can only try to continue to make amends through his work with the Humane Society.
