Angelique Kerber beat Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets on Thursday night to reach the U.S. Open final.
Kerber, who will become the new No. 1 player on tour following Serena Williams's semifinal defeat on Thursday, will play in her third Grand Slam final of the season on Saturday when she faces Karolina Pliskova.
Kerber would have become the new No. 1 even if she had lost to Wozniacki on Thursday, but the No. 2 seed padded her new ranking with a 6-4, 6-3 semifinal win at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
