BUFFALO — As he draws increasing scrutiny in connection with a criminal investigation, Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks has hired a lawyer, and on Saturday he canceled public events with the Stanley Cup here in his hometown.
Kane, 26, one of the N.H.L.’s most dazzling offensive players, will not be making any public appearances with the Cup, as he has done in the past.
“Patrick will have the Cup in Buffalo today, privately, with his family,” Brendan Faber, the Blackhawks’ senior director of communications and community relations, wrote in an email Saturday morning.
