LOUISVILLE — Favorite American Pharoah won Saturday's Kentucky Derby beating Firing Line and Dortmund.
The winning time for the 1 1/4 mile race was 2:03.02 in front of a record crowd of 170,513. The winner paid $7.80 on a $2 bet.
"He's been special since the day I rode him," said jockey Victor Espinoza, who won his third Derby and second consecutive.
Said winning trainer Bob Baffert: "We were ready to rumble."
Baffert has now won the Kentucky Derby four times and it was Espinoza's third win and second consecutive.
Dortmund, also trained by Baffert, lost for the first time in seven starts.
