The more the rain pelted the grounds outside the refurbished Barn 1 at Belmont Park on Tuesday, the more the crowd grew.
Fans came in raincoats and boots, umbrellas in one hand and cameras in the other. There were grooms, security guards, racing officials and members of the news media. Satellite trucks from CNN, CBS, Fox News, NY1 and more lined the narrow streets. They all assembled for one reason: The arrival in New York of American Pharoah, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner.
As it did with many travelers this week, the rain wreaked havoc on American Pharoah’s travel plans.
