Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock fractured his right elbow on a head-first slide into home plate during the team's exhibition game against the Kansas City Royals on Friday night in Phoenix, manager Chip Hale said.
Pollock will need surgery. There is no immediate timetable for how long he will be sidelined.
Pollock slid into home and touched the plate with his left hand, then grabbed at his right elbow as he tumbled over while scoring Arizona's first run of the game in the third inning.
