New York (AFP) - Edinson Volquez, told of his father's death after pitching the World Series opener, is back from the funeral and hopes to end the Kansas City Royals' 30-year title drought.

The 32-year-old Dominican right-hander will start Sunday for the Royals, who seized a 3-1 lead in Major League Baseball's best-of-seven final by defeating the New York Mets 5-3 Saturday.

"I'm pretty sure my dad is going to be proud of me when I pitch," Volquez said.
