RIO DE JANEIRO — The President of Brazil walked into the smallest press conference room available at the Olympic Park’s press center, impeccably dressed, silver hair slicked back.
This was a surprise to the 100 or so packed into a room set up for 42. We were expecting the mayor of Rio, Edurado Paes. We got Michel Temer. This is like ordering the chicken nuggets and having the waiter bring you coq-au-vin.
At least, until Temer started talking.
The gathered media had waited two-and-a-half hours for what was billed as a press conference with Paes and other local officials.
