49ers will add competition for player who struggled badly in 2024

The San Francisco 49ers aren't ruling out kicker Jake Moody returning in 2025, but they're also not ruling out a new kicker coming in and taking the starting job.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Tuesday at the NFL's annual league meeting told reporters the team will aim to add competition for Moody after the second-year kicker struggled badly last season. Moody, a third-round pick in the 2023 draft, had an up-and-down rookie season where he was ultimately good enough to keep his job for a second season after winning the job over Zane Gonzalez in the offseason.
