Edwin Moses, 59, won gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics. From 1977 to 1987, he won 122 consecutive races and set the world record four times. In 2000, he was elected the first chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy, an international service organization designed to increase participation in sports and to promote sports as a tool for social change. Moses graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta with a degree in physics and industrial engineering. He worked as an engineer at General Dynamics in the cruise missile program before devoting himself to sports full time.
