The groundbreaking for Kansas Speedway was May 25, 1999, with the first race on Sept. 30, 2001. In the summer of 2012, the track underwent a repaving, with variable banking added in the corners. All told, Kansas has hosted 22 Cup races — one race annually from 2001-10, then two races per year since 2011.
