If you are suffering from NFL Draft fatigue with the extra two weeks of speculation added to the schedule for this offseason, then we have a cool story for you which may cure you of your football blues.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League will begin using cameras on the front of their helmets on Sunday:
"Via Philly.com, the Philadelphia Soul will start using the SchuttVision helmet on Sunday. It has a camera mounted above the face mask, in the spot between the screws on the hairline of the helmet. It provides fans and teams with point-of-view video that can both enhance broadcasts and assist with coaching."
The former World League of American Football (now NFL Europa) was the first to try a first-person view in football broadcasting, with a camera placed in the padding of select players' equipment.
"It’s unknown if or when the NFL would use something similar. The video gets a little choppy as the player moves, making the experience a bit like watching Cloverfield with football and without, you know, whatever the hell that thing was," writes Florio.
Yet, don't be surprised if an evolved version of this finds its way to the NFL down the road.
