The Rockets fell short of their ultimate goal, which was to defend their Mid-American Conference championship from last year. Toledo was picked to finish second in the MAC West in the preseason poll behind Northern Illinois, and that is exactly how it ended up. The Huskies won the West with a 6-2 conference record while Toledo tied for second place with Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan at 5-3.
