Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell said he missed the initial call from the Philadelphia Eagles to inform him he was their pick at No. 22 in Thursday’s NFL draft in Detroit.
When he eventually picked up the next call, which came into his other phone, he said it was the best call he ever received.
Mitchell became the second Toledo player selected in the first round after he spoke with Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, head coach Nick Sirianni, and owner Jeffrey Lurie.
“So excited to get you. I’ve been hearing about you for about three years from all my guys over there,” Sirianni said on the call, referring to his relationship with Toledo head coach Jason Candle and defensive coordinator Vince Kehres.
