Virginia put together a masterful final round to win the team title Tuesday at the Inverness Intercollegiate college men’s golf tournament at Inverness Club.
The Cavaliers, who sat in fourth place after Monday’s two opening rounds, shot a six-under 270 in the third round to climb to the top of the leaderboard in the high-level college golf event featuring some of the world’s top amateur players and the nation’s best teams.
Auburn, which led by five strokes going into Tuesday, collapsed with a six-over 282 in the third to drop to second place. The Tigers finished four strokes behind Virginia’s two-under 826.
