EVANSVILLE, Ind. — On a record-setting day for the University of Toledo cross country program, freshman Joy Chirchir is in the mix to qualify for the NCAA championships following a 21st-place finish Friday in the Great Lakes Regional.
Chirchir finished the 6-kilometer race in 20 minutes, 22.5 seconds. Once at-large team selections for the national championships are made, Chirchir will pick up an automatic qualification should she place in the top four runners from Evansville who do not advance as part of qualifying teams. She also will be eligible for an at-large selection to nationals, set for Nov.
