SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The University of Toledo men’s basketball team’s trip to Puerto Rico is on hold.
The Rockets and their 43-person traveling party fell victim to the whims of the airline industry Friday when their flight from Detroit to Newark was canceled for heightened traffic in Newark, which has dealt with significant delays and cancellations this summer.
More than 1,200 flights were canceled Friday in the United States, with Newark Liberty airport near the top of the list.
UT officials declined to comment.
There was hope in the afternoon that Toledo could fly United to Houston and then onto San Juan or take a commercial flight to Miami and then charter to San Juan.
