UT athlete suspended after sexual assault accusation

A University of Toledo athlete has been suspended from team activities after being accused of sexually assaulting another student March 4 at an off-campus apartment, the university said in a statement issued today.

Toledo police are investigating the incident, which was reported to that department Monday, as is UT’s Title IX Office, the university said.

“We take this very seriously,” said Sharon Gaber, the university’s president. “As we have stated before, sexual assault is never acceptable, and the safety of our students is my number one priority.”

“The UT athletic department has high standards for our student-athletes, and we expect every member of the Rocket athletic program to live up to those standards,” said Mike O’Brien, the university’s vice president and athletic director.
