KALAMAZOO — For the first time in 50 years, the University of Toledo men’s tennis team has claimed victory in the Mid-American Conference tournament.
The Rockets claimed their first conference tournament title since 1973 on Sunday, defeating Western Michigan 4-3 in Kalamazoo. With the tournament title comes an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
"Each challenge we've had since last fall has prepared us for this," said UT coach Al Wermer, whose team now has a nine-match winning streak heading into the NCAAs. "These guys are not surprised we won. They're exceptionally close-knit and mobilized for the common cause.
